Meet Donald McIntosh, Bolton West prospective parliamentary candidate

Donald McIntosh, Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate for Bolton West

A special hello to the voters of Horwich, Westhoughton, Blackrod and across the Bolton West constituency. I am Donald McIntosh and I am delighted to have been selected by the Liberal Democrats as prospective candidate for the area.

So I hope to meet many of you in the near future, but in the interim, who am I ?

I am a Chartered Accountant and have worked in business for many years. Initially I worked for large companies, including building power stations in the Philippines and helping run part of British Airways. For the last 15 years I have helped Technology companies raise money, create thousands of jobs and increase exports.

Having lived and travelled overseas extensively, I have a good understanding of international politics in what is becoming an increasingly complicated world. I have two grown up kids who were both educated in the state system.

So, why am I a Liberal Democrat? The Liberal Democrats have a philosophy of creating a country where everyone has a chance to reach their personal potential, whilst having a safety net to help those who can not help themselves, and holding those in power to account. These align perfectly with my personal values.

I also believe the Liberal Democrat policies also support the green economy, and have well thought out solutions to major issues. For example, in the Gaza conflict, we called for an immediate, bilateral ceasefire on 12 November 2023, which would have avoided tens of thousands of civilian deaths and over a million people suffering.

I look forward to UK politics returning to grown up, competent, if not boring politics. This is important as so much depends on getting this right, from the UK finding its place in a post Brexit world through to everyday issues such as the NHS, cost of living and  even whether we have rivers full of sewage.

Between now and the election I will focus on local and national issues, and how we solve them to make the lives of the folks and families in Horwich, Westhoughton, Blackrod and across Bolton West better. I will do my best to give straightforward answers to your questions, and explain why things are as they are and how to fix them.

I hope we can go on this political journey together, and I look forward to meeting you in person.

Donald McIntosh
